BYBL and MWA Come to an End
The BYBL and MWA wiffleball league are now over. The BYBL crumbled in the end of 2001 when upset players refused to pay what
they thought to be "unfair" fines. A vote was then taken by the player union to knock the commissioners out of power
and just play for "fun." At the head of the revolt was Dylan O'Connell (BYBL Players Union President) who was hit the hardest
by fines. In May of 2001 he was fined $15 for being ejected from a game, arguing with the umpire (Ben "Buds" Reid) and opposing
pitcher (Andy Reid) and slamming equipment. This $15 fine got the BYBL off to a rocky start. Dylan worked suades on many
of the players convincing them that fine money was going into corrupt hands and was only for the commissioner's own personal
gains. Another key player in the abolishment of the BYBL was Andy White who was at the time the BYBL Youngen Representative.
Andy was also hit pretty hard with fines for his sometimes outrageous behavior and was fed up with the league. The MWA
was a very popular league for 3 weeks in late July and early August. This league eventually came to a close when players (Dylan
O'Connell) argued that it wasn't enough fun for people who weren't pitching. The league also took another hard hit when Andy
Reid received an indefinite suspension from the league commissioner Nate Reid for just pissing him off. Andy was one of the
main advocates for the league seeing how he loved to K batters with his "nasty deuce and ARS." This site will remain up as
a memory for these two great leagues that thrived during the summer of 2001. Check out the where they are now website.
Normal Stuff that was here before
Due to the cancellation of the BYBL newsletter i decided that you guys still needed a lot of dumb articles and summaries
of games. I will be trying to find Andy's article on the curvball and will post it on this page when i have found it. Please
dont expect too much from this page.
For those of you who dont know what the BYBL or the MWA are they stand for the Bakcyard Baseball League and the Minnesota
Wiffle ball Assosciation. The MWA is a group of 10-15 teenage kids who play wiffle ball at Reid feild. The BYBL is a league
of the same kids who play baseball using a tennis ball at the Colesium, St. Lukes and Open School. If you are in the Twin
Cities area and would like to join either of these leagues email me at pedrofreid@yahoo.com
